YouTube Music Overlay

A compact, always-on-top Windows player for music playing in your YouTube Music browser tab.

Set up once

Download the ZIP, extract the entire folder, and open YouTubeMusicOverlay/YouTubeMusicOverlay.exe. Keep all files together.
Install YouTube Music Overlay Companion when its Store listing becomes available. The extension has not yet been published.
Until then, load the included companion folder as an unpacked extension through your browser's extensions page in Developer mode. Chrome and Edge are supported.
Right-click the overlay and open Settings. Copy the Browser pairing code. Open the extension popup, paste the code, and press Pair browser.
Open or reload music.youtube.com, sign in with your own account, and play a song. Keep the tab open.
Press Done to return to the compact player.

Daily use

Drag the background to move the overlay. Use previous/next to change songs, and click or drag the bottom progress bar to seek. The 320 × 100 pixel player follows your device’s light or dark appearance. Playlist saving and its global shortcut have been removed.

Both the app and browser must run on the same computer. This version supports web playback; it does not control playback on your phone.

Current-song reading has been verified with a signed-in account. Pairing, previous/next, seeking, themes and disconnect are checked with a test player. The companion does not read Google authentication cookies or call playlist/account APIs.
